Best eSIM for Saudi Arabia: phone showing an eSIM screen beside a passport and a map of Saudi Arabia, with the Riyadh skyline and Saudi flag behind

Disclosure: this guide contains affiliate links. If you buy an eSIM through them, WingReserve may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. WingReserve is run from Saudi Arabia, and we also show you the Saudi visitor SIM cards sold at the airport, even though we earn nothing from them, because for some trips they're the better deal. How this works

The first hour in Saudi Arabia is when you need your phone most. You land at Jeddah or Riyadh, and before you've left the terminal you want to book a ride, message your hotel or Umrah group, check the Haramain train or open the Nusuk app. Saudi Arabia has fast mobile networks, but none of that helps if your phone is still on expensive roaming from home, or if you're waiting in a queue at a phone shop with your passport after an overnight flight.

This guide is written for the people who actually travel here: pilgrims on Umrah, visitors coming for Riyadh Season, AlUla or the Red Sea, and business travellers. It compares the best travel eSIMs for Saudi Arabia plan by plan, explains when a local visitor SIM from stc, Mobily or Zain is the smarter buy, and covers the practical details that matter in Makkah and Madinah.

The short answer

  • Most visitors (Umrah, short trips, business): Airalo. It was the cheapest for most plan sizes, runs on Zain, and works the moment you land.
  • One plan that lasts 30 days: Yesim. Every fixed-data plan lasts 30 days, and it was cheapest for 20GB.
  • Visiting other Gulf or Middle East countries too: a regional plan such as Airalo Menalink.
  • Staying weeks, heavy data or need a Saudi number: buy a visitor SIM from stc, Mobily or Zain at the airport. Prices below.

Saudi Arabia eSIM Prices Compared: Airalo vs Yesim

Prices are in US dollars for Saudi Arabia-only plans. Validity, how many days a plan lasts, is shown under each price. The cheapest price in each row is highlighted.

What "unlimited" means here: Airalo's Saudi unlimited plans give 3GB of full-speed data a day, then slow to about 1 Mbps until the next day, according to eSIMDB's plan listings. That's enough for maps and messages but slow for video. Yesim's unlimited plans are subject to a fair-use policy. Long unlimited plans in Saudi Arabia are expensive; for a month-long stay, a visitor SIM gives far more data for the money.

The Best eSIM for Saudi Arabia, by Type of Traveller

1Best for most visitors: Airalo

  • Main network: Zain
  • From $4.50
  • No Saudi registration

Why it stands out: Airalo's Saudi plans (called Red Sand) were the cheapest in our comparison for 1GB to 5GB and for every unlimited plan, and they come in short lengths that match a typical Umrah or business trip. Airalo's Saudi page lists Zain, one of the country's three main networks, as the primary network. Like other travel eSIMs, it doesn't need Saudi SIM registration, because it's issued by a foreign provider.

Watch out for: it's data-only, so there's no Saudi phone number. Several of the cheapest plans last only 3 or 7 days, so check validity against your trip. The unlimited plans slow down after 3GB a day.

2Best for longer stays on one plan: Yesim

  • All fixed plans: 30 days
  • 20GB: $37
  • Day passes from 1 day

Why it stands out: every Yesim fixed-data plan for Saudi Arabia lasts 30 days, so you can buy once for a long Umrah trip or a work assignment and not worry about the plan expiring. Among 30-day plans, it was the cheapest for 10GB and 20GB. It also sells single-day unlimited passes, useful if you only need heavy data for a day or two.

Watch out for: its small plans and its 7-day unlimited plan cost more than Airalo's. Prices are converted from another currency, so they won't be round numbers at checkout. Data only, no Saudi number.

3Best for trips around the region: a Middle East plan

  • Airalo Menalink 10GB / 30 days: $30
  • Yesim Middle East 10GB / 30 days: $34.76

Why it stands out: if you're combining Saudi Arabia with other countries in the region, one regional plan saves you buying a new eSIM at every border. Airalo's Menalink costs a few dollars more than its Saudi-only plan for the same data.

Watch out for: open the plan's country list and check every stop on your route before buying. Regional plans cost more than a single-country plan if you only visit Saudi Arabia.

eSIM for Umrah: What Pilgrims Need to Know About Makkah and Madinah

For pilgrims, a phone isn't a luxury. It's how you stay in touch with your group in crowds of thousands, find your hotel again after prayers, book the Haramain high-speed train between Makkah and Madinah, and manage your permits. A few points that matter specifically for Umrah:

  • The Nusuk app. Saudi Arabia's official Hajj and Umrah platform is used to issue Umrah permits and book time slots. Install it, create your account and sign in before you travel, while you have reliable internet at home.
  • Nusuk without data. In August 2025, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that stc, Mobily and Zain give access to key Nusuk services without using mobile data, including Rawdah permits, Haramain train bookings and Nusuk maps. The announcement doesn't say whether this applies to travel eSIMs, so don't rely on it: keep data on your eSIM for Nusuk.
  • Stay reachable by your group. Many Umrah groups coordinate on WhatsApp. Message and call over data, and share your live location with a family member when you go to the Haram.
  • Offline backups. Save a screenshot of your permit QR codes, hotel address (in Arabic too) and group leader's number, in case the network is busy or your battery runs low.
  • Carry a power bank. Long days, maps and video calls home drain a phone fast.

Our recommendation for Umrah

  • Umrah of 7 to 14 days: a 5GB or 10GB eSIM is enough for messaging, maps and permits. Choose 30-day validity if your dates might change.
  • You video-call family every day: a 7-day or 15-day unlimited plan, or a visitor SIM with more data.
  • Travelling as a family: each phone needs its own eSIM, or buy one larger plan and share it as a hotspot if your plan allows it.

Saudi Visitor SIM Cards: stc, Mobily, Zain and Salam

Saudi networks sell visitor packages that include far more data than travel eSIMs, plus minutes for local and international calls. These are examples published in July 2026 (prices in Saudi riyals; 3.75 SAR = $1):

NetworkPriceDataCallsValidity
stc Visitor 5260 SAR20GB2 hours2 weeks
Mobily Visitor 5057.5 SAR20GB120 min14 days

Salam visitor59.8 SAR25GB120 min14 days
stc Visitor 104120 SAR65GB5 hours4 weeks

Source: KSA Expats, "Saudi Arabia Visitor SIM Packages" (July 2026). Packages and prices change, and offers at airport counters can differ; check the current offer before you pay.

What you need to buy one: your original passport and Saudi visa. Registration usually takes 10 to 20 minutes at the counter, according to Simology, and Saudi rules link new SIM registrations to the buyer's fingerprints. SIM shops for stc, Mobily and Zain are in the arrivals hall at Jeddah airport, and Traveltomtom reports that airport prices are the same as in the city.

So when is an eSIM still better?

  • You're online before you leave the plane. No queue, no paperwork after a long or overnight flight.
  • No registration. A travel eSIM is issued abroad, so it doesn't need Saudi registration.
  • Your home number stays in your phone for bank codes and family calls.
  • A backup if the counter can't help. Traveltomtom reports a time when an airport shop's system was down and couldn't sell SIM cards.

Our rule of thumb for Saudi Arabia

  • Trip under 2 weeks, normal use: a travel eSIM. Online on landing, no registration.
  • Two weeks or more, or heavy data use: a visitor SIM gives far more data for the money, and a Saudi number.
  • Best of both: a small eSIM (1GB to 3GB) for arrival day, then a visitor SIM once you're settled.

How Much Data Do You Need in Saudi Arabia?

Hotels and malls usually have Wi-Fi, but you'll rely on mobile data for ride-hailing, maps and staying in touch when you're out. As a guide:

How you use your phone1 week2 weeks
Light: WhatsApp, maps, ride-hailing, Nusuk, bookings3–5GB5–10GB
Average: plus social media, photo uploads, some video calls5–10GB10–20GB
Heavy: daily video calls home, streaming, hotspotUnlimitedVisitor SIM

Planning ranges, not measurements. You can top up both Airalo and Yesim from the app if you run low.

How to Set Up Your Saudi Arabia eSIM Before You Fly

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM and isn't locked to your home network. The provider's app or website has a compatibility list.
  2. Buy and install at home, on Wi-Fi. Installing needs internet. Most plans only start counting days when they first connect in Saudi Arabia, but check the activation rule on your plan.
  3. Install Nusuk, your ride-hailing app and your airline's app at home, and sign in to each one.
  4. When you land: set mobile data to the eSIM and switch on data roaming for that line. Travel eSIMs connect as roaming, so they won't work without it.
  5. Turn off data roaming on your home line, but keep the line on so you still receive bank codes by SMS.

Plan the rest of the trip: compare airport transfers from Jeddah or Riyadh airport to your hotel, and check travel insurance before you go. Visiting several countries? Our Airalo vs Saily vs Yesim comparison covers multi-country trips.

Six Mistakes to Avoid

  • Waiting until you land to sort out data. After a long flight and immigration, the last thing you want is a SIM queue.
  • Buying a long "unlimited" eSIM for a month. In Saudi Arabia, a 30-day unlimited eSIM costs about $97; a visitor SIM gives tens of gigabytes for a fraction of that.
  • Choosing a 3- or 7-day plan for a 10-day Umrah. Check validity before data.
  • Forgetting your passport for a local SIM. You need the original, not a copy, plus your visa.
  • Leaving data roaming on for your home line. Background app updates can cost more than the whole eSIM.
  • Relying on one phone in a family group. If one person carries the only connection, the group can't find each other in the crowds.

Our verdict

For most visitors to Saudi Arabia, and especially for Umrah trips of one to two weeks, a travel eSIM is the simplest choice: you install it at home, you're online the moment you land, and there's no registration. Airalo is the best value for most trips, and Yesim is best when you want one plan that lasts 30 days. If you're staying longer or need lots of data, buy a visitor SIM from stc, Mobily or Zain once you've arrived.

Saudi Arabia eSIM: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best eSIM for Saudi Arabia?

For most visitors, Airalo, because it was the cheapest for small plans and unlimited plans in our comparison and runs on Zain. Yesim is the better choice if you want a fixed-data plan that lasts 30 days, and it was cheaper for 30-day 10GB and 20GB plans.

What is the best eSIM for Umrah?

For an Umrah of one to two weeks, a 5GB or 10GB Saudi Arabia eSIM is enough for WhatsApp, maps and the Nusuk app. Choose a 30-day plan if your dates may change, and install it at home before you fly so you're connected when you land in Jeddah or Madinah.

Does an eSIM work in Makkah and Madinah?

Yes. Saudi Arabia eSIMs connect to Saudi networks; Airalo, for example, lists Zain as its main network, and the national networks cover both cities. During very busy periods, any network can slow down, so keep offline copies of your permits and hotel address.

How much does an eSIM for Saudi Arabia cost?

In October 2026, Saudi Arabia eSIMs started at $4.50 for 1GB with Airalo. A 10GB plan for 30 days cost about $25, and unlimited plans started at $27 for 7 days.

Do I need to register a travel eSIM in Saudi Arabia?

No. Travel eSIMs from foreign providers such as Airalo and Yesim don't need Saudi registration. A local SIM or eSIM from stc, Mobily, Zain or Salam must be registered with your original passport and visa.

Is a Saudi visitor SIM cheaper than an eSIM?

For data, usually yes. Visitor packages published in July 2026 included 20GB plus call minutes for about 57 to 60 SAR for 14 days. The trade-off is that you buy it after landing, with your passport, while an eSIM works the moment you arrive.

Can I get a Saudi phone number with an eSIM?

Not with Airalo or Yesim; their Saudi plans are data-only. For a Saudi number, buy a visitor SIM or eSIM from stc, Mobily, Zain or Salam.

Does the Nusuk app work without data?

In August 2025, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that stc, Mobily and Zain give access to key Nusuk services without mobile data. It's not clear whether this applies to travel eSIMs, so set up Nusuk before you travel and keep data available.
